In November 2018, Postma Heating & Cooling upgraded the boiler in the mechanical room at the Thamesview Apartments in Chatham, Ontario. To date, their standard process for joining small diameter carbon steel pipe was threading. This typically took about three days and required an onsite threading machine.
However, prior to this project, the contractor was introduced to a new small diameter piping innovation - the Victaulic QuickVic™ SD Installation-Ready™ System. Offering an easier, faster way to join carbon steel pipe compared to threading, the contractor decided to try QuickVic SD for the Thamesview Apartments project.
Installation was simple, without the space needed or the mess caused by threading. Pipe was cut, prepared and marked, and then inserted into a QuickVic SD housing. Using a standard impact wrench, the bolts were tightened until visual pad-to-pad contact was achieved. A full offering of couplings, fittings and valves allowed for a complete system install.
Celeb Postma, a technician at Postma Heating & Cooling, comments, “Postma expects QuickVic SD to be a go-to solution moving forward. We will definitely use it on future projects and carry it in our truck. It will be great for system builds and repairs. The fast installation and easy system access for maintenance makes it a winner for our business.”
