In 1986, the Tri-City Wastewater Treatment Facility was constructed to replace obsolete treatment plants in Oregon City and West Linn. In September 2020, the Clackamas Water Environmental Services (WES) expanded the facility to ensure that the wastewater treatment needs of more than 190,000 county residents will be met for decades to come.

To expand the facility’s capacity, a new 1.3-million-gallon anaerobic digester, Dewatering, and Digester Control Building, and digester gas purification system were constructed at the original facility. In the new building, Victaulic provided grooved solutions for the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) piping system that was being designed and installed. The PVC piping system was selected because it was lightweight and easily able to be installed and hung from the ceiling, as the system design required, and could handle the corrosive media.

On this project, James W. Fowler Co. was working with a limited crew. They needed a reliable pipe joining solution that provided speed and ease of installation. For decades, this general contractor, based in Dallas, Oregon, had used and trusted Victaulic solutions on projects. Knowing the requirements and needs of this project, the team at James W. Fowler Co. knew that Victaulic was the best option. Victaulic solutions for PVC pipe, including the Style 357 Installation-Ready™ Rigid Couplings and Style 356 Installation-Ready™ Transition Couplings, were specified and installed.

Additionally, by selecting Victaulic, WES was able to reduce its overall construction schedule. The CG1100 Cut Grooving Tool cut PGS-300 grooves into the PVC pipe in the field, allowing James W. Fowler Co. to field groove the pipe in a matter of minutes.
